General Data Protection Regulation 2018 - General Statement

The General Data Protection Regulation 2018 (GDPR) came into effect on 25th May 2018. The Christchurch History Society Website is considered to be fully compliant.

The GDPR applies to all personal data held by the Society either in paper format or digitally.    The Society holds all such data on its Membership List and its Register of Research Requests, encrypted on computer.

Membership Applications

When applying for membership of the Christchurch History Society, whether joining new or renewing, each individual must complete and sign a Membership Application Form (download a Form from the Home Page). The data given on the Form will be held by the Society encrypted on computer.   Only the Form appears on the website; no personal data is held on the website but is held independently thereof.   Upon request to The Membership Secretary (details under the ‘Contact Us’ tab) a Member can view the data held or request that the data be removed. The data will be used only for processing the purposes stated on the Membership Application Form.   The personal data provided on the Form will not be disclosed to any other person(s) or any third party organisations (unless required by law).

Request for Research Applications

 

When applying for assistance from The Christchurch History Society with a Research Enquiry or an Archive Visit Application, enquirers will be asked to complete one of two appropriate Forms.  The data given on the Form will be held by the Society encrypted on computer.   Only the Forms appear on the website; no personal data is held on the website but is held independently thereof.   Other data will be added to the computer database for the purpose of monitoring progress of the Enquiry and administration within the Society.   Upon request to The Research Co-Ordinator (details under the ‘Contact Us’ tab) an enquirer can view the data held or request that the data be removed.   The data will be used only for processing the Enquiry but the findings will be recorded for future reference and may be used in the Society’s Archives.      The personal data provided on the Form will not be disclosed to any other person(s) or any third party organisations (unless required by law).
