Portman Lodge, Bournemouth

DESCRIPTION OF RECORD:

Portman Lodge the oldest and only thatched house in Bournemouth, residence of the late Mr Tregonwell founder of the Town. Site of the old bus station. Note on the back reads: Originally a 4 roomed cottage erected in 1810, this was 'Portman Lodge', second house to be built in Bournemouth after Tregonwell House. Formerly known as Symes Cottage, Symes being the butler who lived there. Portman Lodge was burnt down in the 1920s & its site is now part of the Hants & Dorset bus station. 'Echo' 14.6.1956
