17 February 7:00pm - 8:00pm
An online talk, using Zoom, by Dr Geoffrey Mead, School of Global Studies at University of Sussex.
‘Channel Coastlands’ looks at some sample landscapes along our shoreline; the physical landscapes of cliffs, dunes, shingle and saltmarsh and the human landscapes of ports, resorts and sleepy hollows. The areas covered will be mixed and varied; the shingle of Dungeness, large resorts like Hastings or Brighton and less populated area such as Thorney Island (Chichester Harbour) also close to the large industrial area of Portsmouth Harbour.
Our speaker is Dr Geoffrey Mead Lecturer in Geography at School of Global Studies, University of Sussex.
Geoffrey has lived in Brighton all his life where he took his BA (Geography), MA (Local History) doctorate in Brighton’s interwar suburban growth all at the University of Sussex. His research interests are now in resorts and suburban housing, which includes historic industries, agriculture, and contrasting communities.
