Who knew that Boots (the Chemists) used to have subscription libraries within their chemist shops. They were very successful and flourished throughout the UK from 1899-1966 when the last branch closed. Jackie’s talk includes contact with former subscribers and members of staff and has some fascinating and entertaining anecdotes. It is an interesting piece of social history.
