Welcome to Christchurch History Society
As previously announced, the Coronavirus lockdown has caused many of the Society’s activities to be suspended until the pandemic is over. Research work CAN AND DOES continue.
Furthermore, as detailed below, we are successfully holding virtual meetings once a month on Wednesday evenings, using Zoom. These are open to anyone, but the Zoom link, set up by our Secretary, Peter Mearns, will be different for each meeting. The link will appear on the page giving details of each meeting shortly before the event (click on the event as listed below).
Despite the suspension, most of the pages on this website have not been amended, in the expectation that they will become relevant again when normality resumes. Please bear this in mind as you visit the various pages of the website, many of which contain much information on the history of Christchurch.
The Christchurch History Society organises ten evening meetings a year, visits, guided walks and attends community events. It also has a group of volunteers that carries out research on specific topics, including family history, and the Society is constantly extending its archive. More information is being added to this website all the time, and we welcome your contributions. Find out more about the Society or contact us. Please browse the On-Line Catalogue of the Archive or dip into the website to explore the history of Christchurch. A Step by Step Guide to Searching the Archive is available.
